Ve bazen, çok derin olmadığını göreceksin.
Bir Zen hikayesi şöyle anlatır:

Gece yürüyen adamın ayağı kayar ve adam taşlı bir yolda düşer. Metrelerce aşağı düşmekten korkar, çünkü yolun kenarının çok derin bir vadiye uzandığını biliyordur. O’da kenar da sarkan bir dala tutunur. 

Gecenin karanlığında, altında görebildiği tek şey, dipsiz bir uçurumdur. Bağırır ve tek duyduğu kendi sesinin yankısı olur. Onu duyacak kimse yoktur etrafta. Bu adamı ve bütün bir gece yaşadığı işkenceyi hayal edebilirsin. Ölüm sürekli altında bekler, elleri üşür, hakimiyetini kaybeder… 

Ama tutunmayı başarır ve güneş çıktığında, aşağı bakar… 

Ve güler! 

Uçurum falan yoktur. Sadece on beş santim aşağıda kayalık bir düzlük vardır. Tüm gece dinlenebilir, rahatça uyuyabilirdi -düzlük yeterince geniştir- ama bunun yerine, bütün gecesini kabus gibi geçirdi.

Kendi tecrübelerimden yola çıkarak sana şunu söyleyeyim: korku on beş santimden daha derin değildir. Şimdi ister bir dala tutunup tüm yaşamını kabusa çevir, istersen o dalı bırak ve ayaklarının üzerine bas, sana kalmış.

Look at your fears.
Look slowly into it, so you can discover their depth.
And sometimes, you will see it is not very deep.
A Zen story tells the following:
A man who was walking at night time slips and falls on a stone covered road. He becomes afraid of falling meters deep, because he knows that next to the road is a very deep vally. So, he holds on to a tree branch.

In the darkness of the night, all that he can see is an unending depth..An abyss..He shouts and all that he can hear is the echo of his voice.There is no one, who can hear him. You can imagine this man and the torture he is going through..Death is the whole night underneath him, he's hands get cold, he starts to loose his control.

But somehow, he manages to hold on and when the sun comes up, he looks down...

And laughs..

There is no deep abyss..Only 15 cm below is a rocky flatness. He could have rested the whole night: The fear is no deeper than 15 cm. Now you have a choice. You either hold on to the branch and turn your life into a nightmere or let the branch go and stand on the flatness..It is up to you..
