Zeynep Erol yine çok güzeldi. St. Petersburg'a yaptığı bir seyahatten yeni dönmüştü. Istanbul Modern'in restoranında birer kadeh beyaz şarap içerken onun seyahat anılarını büyük bir keyifle dinledim..

Zeynep Erol was beautiful again. She just came back from her journey to St Petersburg. I listened to her stories with great pleasure while sipping from my glass with white wine.

Bizans’ın kurulduğu 11 Mayıs’ta açtığı için erguvan imparatorluğun simgesiydi. Rengi arma ve imparator ailesinin giysilerinde kullanılırdı. Erguvan Boyası Loncası’na üye ipekçilerin dokuyup özel bir deniz- salyangozuyla boyadıkları ipeklileri sadece imparator ailesi kullanabilirdi.

The Byzantine Empire was founded on the 11th of May, which was the blossoming season of the Judas Tree, therfore it was chosen as the symbol of the Empire. The colour purple was used in armorial bearings and clothes of the imperial family. There was a guild for the merchants of the Purple Colour Dye. The members of the guild, who were making silk were dying it with a special sea snail in order to get the colour purple. The silk could only be used by the imperial family.

Did you know that there was a union for the Judas Tree Lovers in Istanbul? The Judas Tree is for me the sign that spring has come, especialy in Bebek.
