Uzun zamandır gelmediğim İstiklal Caddesi'nde Demirören Alışveriş Merkezi'ni keşfettim..Mart 2011'deki açılışı bayağı olaylı olsa da Avrupa'daki AVM'leri çağrıştıran bir tarzı var. İçinde de Virgin Megastore'u bulmak çok hoş oldu..

I have discovered the Demirören Shopping Center on the İstiklal Street, where I haven't been for a long while. Although the opening in March 2011 was accompanied with lots of protest, it has an European look. It was a nice surprise to find the Virgin Megastore in there..

After seeing the different stairs of the shopping center I continued my walk on the İstiklal Street.
Çiçek Pasajı'nın olduğu yerde daha önce Naum Tiyatrosu varmış. 1870'te bir yangınla yanana kadar İtalyan Operaları sahnelenirmiş burada..Müşterileri arasında Sultan Abdülhamit ve Sultan Abdülaziz de varmış..Bir Galata Bankeri olan Rum asıllı Hristaki Zografos Efendi burayı satın alıp, İtalyan mimar Cleanthy Zanno'ya yaptırıyor..

The Naum Theater House was built here before the Flower Passage. Italian operas were played in this building untill it was burnt down in 1870. Sultan Abdülhamit and Sultan Abdülaziz were among the clients of this Theater House. Mr. Hristaki Zografos; a banker with Greek origin from Galata buys the ground and hires the Italian architect Cleanthy Zanno to make a new building.
Yeni yapılan binanın alt katında 24 dükkan, tütün dükkanı, çiçekçi, terzi, pastahane gibi açılıyor. Üst katında ise 18 lüks daire yapılıyor. Sonra pasaj çiçek mezat yeri olarak kullanılmaya başlayınca çiçek dükkanları da artmış.1940'larda giderek daha çok meyhane açılmasıyla tüm çiçekçiler gitmiş...

The lower floor of the new building existed of 24 shops, like a tailor, a florist, a tobacco shop and a bakery. On the upper floor there were18 luxery appartments. Later the passage became a flower market and there were more flowershops opened. In the 1940's more and more beer houses and pubs were opened. Therefore the florists left the passage
